The Future
The cost of the technology involved in indoor snow production is coming down and the quality of indoor snow continualy improving. Innovative concepts like Ski-Trac could revolutionise the construction of snowdomes, but even without such breakthroughs the future for indoor skiing looks bright.
Major shopping and leisure developments around the world are adding a dome to their proposals if only to raise the profile of their concepts and offer the locality chosen something still relatively unique they can boast about to the world.

New domes are being developed in traditionally hot locations such as Dubai, where the novelty of winter sports is appealing.
And indoor skiing as a sport is gaining some recognition. Recently a round of the snowboard world cup was held indoors at SnowWorld in the Dutch town of Laandgraaf.
There is currently no international association of snowdomes, but as informal networks are created and experiences shared we can expect that good ideas from one location will percolate to the others. This can only help increase the commercial returns for snowdome operators, which will, in turn, make indoor skiing projects more attractive to investers.
For skiing enthusiasts who live in places that do not have ready access to traditional ski fields this is good news indeed.
